Push-to-talk between your guards and the control room
Yaqiz gives your guards and control room a push-to-talk (PTT) walkie-talkie on the guard’s Android phone and in the office browser, with no handsets to buy. Hold to record a voice clip of up to 30 seconds and let go to send. It plays by itself for the channel’s other members wherever their app or console is open, and when several clips arrive they play one after another, never over each other. These are recorded clips, not a live call.
In the field: hold to talk from the guard app
Once a guard clocks in, a round walkie-talkie button floats on every screen of the Android guard app. The guard picks a channel and holds to talk. A short beep marks the start and another the end, and a ring counts down the seconds left, turning red for the last five.
- At 30 seconds the clip sends by itself, so reaching the limit never throws it away.
- Incoming clips play automatically on any screen, with a notice naming who is speaking.
Channels: a Main channel per site, plus the ones you create
Every site gets a Main channel automatically, with members drawn from your setup: the staff assigned to the site, anyone with access to all sites, and holders of the Manage channels permission. Those holders can also create custom channels in the console, choose their members, rename them, switch them off or delete them. People hear only the clips of channels they belong to.
While one person is talking, the others on that channel see who it is, and their button stays locked until the speaker lets go.
In the control room: the browser and Yaqiz Admin
On the console’s Walkie-talkie page, a supervisor or dispatcher picks a channel, holds to talk once the browser may use the microphone, and replays recent clips in the Activity column. Incoming clips play on every page of the console once someone has clicked on the page, because browsers block sound until the user interacts with it.
Yaqiz Admin, the console’s Android app for managers and supervisors, has the same page, and its Profile page has a “Receive walkie-talkie in the background” switch. It is off by default; turned on, it plays clips even with the app closed, as long as the user stays signed in.
In the guard app: on duty only, with optional background listening
In the guard app the walkie-talkie belongs to the shift. Off duty it is switched off, not just hidden: no button and no sound, even in the background. Clocking in turns it back on, while the SOS button stays available on and off duty.
“Background listening” in the guard app’s Settings is off by default. Turned on, it asks for notification permission and a battery-optimisation exemption, then plays clips with the app in the background or swiped away while the guard is clocked in. Some phones’ battery savers can still delay them.
Replay for 7 days, and clear limits
Clip history in the guard app and the Activity column in the console replay clips from the last 7 days, newest first, filtered by channel and period, with the speaker and time on each. After 7 days the clip and its audio are deleted automatically. The speaker’s name is taken from their account, so nobody can send a clip as someone else.
- With background listening off and the app closed, a clip plays no sound and shows no notification, but it stays in the history.
- Clips cannot be exported or downloaded, and they do not appear in reports.
The walkie-talkie depends on your plan, and each person's permissions decide whether they can talk and listen, and whether they can create custom channels.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Yaqiz walkie-talkie the same as a two-way radio?
Not exactly. These are recorded clips of up to 30 seconds that arrive within seconds and play in turn, never two voices at once. It is not a live conversation, and the one-speaker lock is a courtesy, not a guarantee: two presses at almost the same moment can both send.
Does the walkie-talkie work without internet?
No. Sending and receiving need a data connection, and a clip that fails to upload is not saved for later: it has to be recorded again. Offline, the guard app saves only SOS alerts, patrol rounds, presence check-in answers and on-duty location positions, and sends them later.
Can someone on an iPhone use the walkie-talkie?
Not through an app: the guard app and Yaqiz Admin are Android only, downloaded from yaqiz.app. On any other device, such as a computer, office staff open the console in a browser, where clips play while a console tab is open.
What does a guard need to use the walkie-talkie?
An Android phone with the Yaqiz guard app and microphone access, a data connection, an open shift, permission to use the walkie-talkie, and at least one channel: the Main channel of a site they are assigned to, or a custom channel they were added to. The company plan must include the walkie-talkie.
