SOS panic button for security guards: two taps, one coordinated response
A lone guard at a gate at night needs one clear way to call for help. In Yaqiz, the guard double-taps the SOS button in the Android guard app. The site's team and the control room hear a siren, and responders follow the guard on a live map. A dispatcher then closes the alert with a reason, and it stays on record.
Guard panic button: two taps, then a countdown
A red SOS button sits on every screen of the guard app, even off duty. One tap only reminds the guard to tap twice; a double tap starts a five-second countdown the guard can still cancel.
- The alert carries the guard's GPS position if the phone has one, and goes without it if not.
- With no signal, it is saved on the phone and retried every 15 seconds and whenever the app reopens.
- The guard sees who took the alert and how many colleagues are coming, and can tap “I'm safe”; a dispatcher still closes the alert.
Who gets the emergency alert, and how colleagues reach the guard
Yaqiz files the alert under the company site nearest the guard and pushes it to staff assigned or rostered there and to the dispatchers covering it. On Android it rings a siren on its own alarm channel, which muting routine notifications cannot silence. With the guard app open, colleagues also see a red full-screen alert: who needs help, where, and how far.
- From it, Directions opens Google Maps and “I'm on my way” shares the responder's live position.
- “I've arrived” is tapped, or set automatically within about 50 m of the guard.
- Sharing lasts 60 minutes at most: the guard's until the alert closes, each responder's until they arrive or stand down.
In the control room: banner, siren and a live event page
In the web console and the Yaqiz Admin Android app, a red banner that cannot be dismissed stays on every page while an alert is open, with a siren for each new one. In a browser the siren needs one click on the page first; Yaqiz Admin also sounds it as a phone notification if its notifications are allowed.
- Acknowledge shows the guard who took the alert.
- Each alert has a live page: the map, responders nearest first, and a timeline.
- A dispatcher can respond in person with “I'm on my way”, or raise an SOS for a chosen site.
- Each dispatcher sees the alerts of the sites they cover.
Closing the alert and keeping the record
Closing an alert needs a reason from a fixed list, such as “False alarm”, “Handled on site” or “Pressed by accident”, plus an optional note for the audit trail. The guard and the colleagues responding are told it is closed, and why, and Yaqiz itself stamps who acknowledged and closed the alert, and when.
- The History tab lists each closed alert: how long it lasted, who raised, acknowledged and closed it, who went to help, and why.
- The SOS report is a PDF with your company name and, if you use Branding, your logo and colours, tracing each alert from the press of SOS to the closing reason.
SOS and the live response depend on your plan; the SOS report also needs PDF reports, and your logo and colours on it need Branding.
Frequently asked questions
What if a guard presses the panic button by mistake?
One tap sends nothing, and a double tap leaves five seconds to cancel. If an alert still goes out, a dispatcher closes it with the reason “Pressed by accident”.
Does the SOS work without internet?
Raising it does: the alert is saved on the phone and retried until it goes through, keeping its press time if sent within 24 hours. “I'm on my way”, “I'm safe” and live location need a connection.
Does Yaqiz send an SMS or call the police?
No. Alerts come only as push notifications, a siren and screens inside the apps: no SMS, WhatsApp, email or phone calls. “Escalated to authorities” is just a closing reason your team records; Yaqiz contacts no one.
Is there an iPhone app?
No. Both apps are Android only, downloaded from yaqiz.app; the control room can also use the web console in any browser.
